Weekend Variety

This was a fun weekend! I like variety and this weekend I got to make pictures of a bunch of different events.

Friday night was the Lincolnway Central vs Lincolnway East Hockey game. Also Senior Night for these schools. Once again, Bobby Hull was there signing autographs. I had made an 8×10 print of a picture of Kieran and Bobby from last year for him to autograph. He got a kick out of it and Kieran was pretty pumped about it! I also made a picture of the 2 of them for next year!  He is a very nice guy.

I went last year and it was packed. This year was no different. What’s cool about this is the energy level. These schools take hockey pretty seriously and it shows. The crowd was really into it and so were the players. There was some serious banging going on from the 1st faceoff on. Some great goaltending on both ends but in the end, East took the trophy. Thanks to Head Coach Bill Hetfleisch, I got to spend the game on the bench and had a great ongoing conversation with Ed Herbert, the goalie coach, between shots. Great night to say the least!

After the hockey game I shot over to the Charlie Horse to see a few people that I went to HS with. That was fun! I hadn’t seen a few of the girls since HS and it was great to see them again. No pictures there though. Just a little catching up!

Saturday afternoon I was off to Eisenhower HS to make pictures of Tinley Park HS wrestlers at the conference meet. What a great group of wrestlers! I just sort of hung out with a few of them throughout the day and got to see some good wrestling. I also ran into a couple of guys that I went to HS with who were now coaches. Small world eh?

Sunday we had planned on going to Starved Rock State Park to see the eagles but got word that there were only a few there and they were pretty far away. Instead, we took the train and went to Snow Days in Grant Park. This was our 2nd year going there and it is one pretty cool event. Pardon the pun! There were some very good snow sculptures to be seen. My pictures don’t do them justice. The detail in some of them was fantastic. Very creative stuff. And then there are the sled dogs! If you don’t know by now, I love making dog pictures and there was no lack of opportunity here. I saw some great looking dogs and even learned a few things. I was talking to Pat, from Natures Kennel, about his dogs and learned a lot about Alaskan Huskies. Some really laid back dogs but they have the energy to run the Iditarod! It was in the 20′s today and all the dogs looked like it was a little too warm!

The boys were hungry so we went on a search for a McDonalds for lunch. As we were walking we heard someone yelling and looked up. There were a few guys on the top floor of the Metropolitan Correctional Center getting a little day light. Grabbed a few pictures and continued our journey. After passing 2 that were closed, we found one and had a nice lunch. I don’t eat McDonalds much anymore but always enjoy a McRib when they are in season! On the way to the train station we ran into a group of guys doing some work under the street and grabbed a few pictures. After that it was the usual Sunday milk run home on the train. I’m glad to be home. It was quite a weekend!
