Good Lightning Tips From DPS

without comments

lightning I know I have tried for a few years to makeĀ  some decent lightning pictures. The Digital Photography School gives a few good tips here. Good stuff to be found there on a pretty regular basis.

This is where digital photography really pays off. I can rip a couple hundred frames sometimes and would not even consider doing this with film. Upload the card, go through them in Lightroom, and you’re on your way!

Now, you have something to do when Mother Nature provides you with a light show. Have fun and be careful!

Photographic Inspiration

without comments

More often than not, I run out of good ideas. I used to come up with good ideas all the time. Well, they seemed like good ideas to me at least!

One of the cool things about photography, is that when you need a little inspiration, or are in a rut, you can surf the interwebs looking at different photography sites. I belong to a few photography related sites and find them to be a good source of inspiration. To an extent. It seems that each site develops its own personality and it shows when you look at the photos posted there or read the comments. Each site also has a great variety of photographers from the seasoned pros to the beginners with their first cameras. When you go to the forums on these sites you can find some good information too. Especially if there are a few knowlegeable senior members who will share with everyone. Some sites are wonky. ie. they only talk about photography gear. Some sites are just gallery sites where everyone posts their photos and everyone comments "Nice Shot". Some are critique sites where you will get varying responses ranging from "Nice Shot" to "What were you thinking?" and everything in between. All of these sites are good and serve a useful purpose.

But when I am looking for inspiration and just want to look at photos that will inspire me, there are only a couple of sites I go to. One of those sites is the Sacremento Bee photoblog The Frame. You will find a great selection of all kinds of photographs that I think are pretty darn inspirational. Have a look. You won’t regret it.

The Bookshelf

without comments

Well, I finally got around to putting together a page that has a list of books that I would recommend to anyone interested in photography and digital editing. These are all books that I have and have found very useful.

The list will eventually become larger but I am having trouble editing things here for some odd reason. I’m sort of new at using WordPress so please bear with me!

You can see the link to my book shelf in the menu on the right or just click here for a look.

I hope you find this page useful and keep checking for updates. And please, if you are interested in one of these books, purchase it through my site. Just click on the title and you will be moved on over to Amazon.com.

2008 Weblog Awards

without comments

Well, it’s that time of year. Once again, it’s time to do your civic duty and vote. Vote for your favorite Photoblog that is! This post is not a shameless plug for you to vote for my site, but to go see some sites that are pretty incredible. There is a lot of good photography out there and you can go Here to see nominated sites and vote for a few of them! You can nominate a worthy site too if you don’t see it there.

Enjoy the look!

Very Helpful Lightroom Link!

without comments

I have been using Adobe Lightroom as the first phase of my workflow since it came out in beta. Without sounding like an ad for Adobe, let’s just say I think it’s a great program. While I am rarely in a rush to get my photos processed, I have been attempting to learn shortcuts in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I recently came across This Page posted on The Lightroom Queen, Victoria Bamptons’ site, The Photoshop Blog. Keyboard shortcuts are pretty cool. Even though I have the memory of a gnat, I do remember a few of the ones I use on a regular basis and it does make things easier than searching around the menus!

If you use Lightroom, this will be a good resource. I think you’ll like it. If you don’t use Lightroom in your workflow, you should look into it. Great Program!
