All Things Must Pass

Well, baseball on the south side ended this afternoon. Earlier this week, manager Ozzie Guillen took his talents to South Beach. Then end of an era in Chicago without a doubt. During his 8 year tenure not only was he a good manager, he was a pretty entertaining character. He also brought home a World Series trophy to Chicago! I’m going to miss the guy but I think it was a good thing for both the Sox and Ozzie. He is going to start fresh with the Florida Marlins. I wish him the best of luck.

I have been thinking about this for a few months now and I have decided that this would be a good time to end PhotoAbuse too. After 5 1/2 years and a little more than 600 pictures, I’m moving on. I have been working on a new site that I think not only looks different, it is all on one platform. This site started as a Pixelpost photoblog and WordPress was added. Pixelpost hasn’t been updated in years and the spammers have been a bit frisky lately. I couldn’t find a way to transfer all my posted pictures so I just figured this might just be the right time to let the site drift away and start anew.

I have been working on a new site for a while now over at TwoLight Photo. I found a template I liked and it is much easier to manage things using WordPress. I don’t see myself getting rid of the domain name any time soon as I may find another use for it some day. You just never know. But for now at least, I won’t be adding any more content there.

For those of you who stopped by to look at my pictures and my infrequent posts, Thank You! I truly hope you enjoyed my stuff. Please stop over at TwoLight and have a look around. I look forward to hearing what you think.

Congrats to the Mavs!

Well, that was quick. The Dallas Mavs are the NBA Champions!

Gotta be honest with you though. I didn’t know that much about them prior to the playoffs other than they were a solid team going up against the Lakers. Never a good thing if playoff history is any indication. The Mavs must not have paid any attention to history though and took the Lakers out of the post season like they were a high school team. Then they beat a very good team in Oklahoma City. Then came the finals against the Miami Heat.

The Miami Heat.

You know the team that is supposed to win championships until the cows come home because of 3 players? Yeah, that team. They even put on a big show last summer to let everyone know they were going to be the greatest team ever. I guess someone down there in Miami forgot to tell them that there that it takes 5 guys to play the game and in order to win it all, they all have to play at the top of their game! The entire Mavericks team showed up to play for this series unlike Miami where Wade and Bosh seemed to be the only guys that showed up.

When LeBron James bailed out of Cleveland last summer, he said he was taking his talent to South Beach. It would seem that for the 2011 finals though, it was the Mavs that took their talent to South Beach. James contributed very little in the finals. He scored a total of 21 combined in the 4th quarters in this series. King James???? Gimme a break. More like a jester this year.

A tip of the hat to the Mavs! Thanks for making it fun to watch a great finals!

Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Rosie

Well, it was a fun weekend to say the least. How can you go wrong when you go out to make pictures and a good natured  beaver is your first subject? Things just got better from there!

Saturday was a fun day. I went out with a few friends and got the opportunity to make a bunch of pictures of a very friendly beaver. Next it was off to Bartel Grassland to check on the baby red tail hawks and check on a few other nests in the area. Great day for pictures and I got home just before the rain started.

Sunday started out a little shakey. We left the house to head to Uncle Jacks for the last annual Memorial Day party. I wasn’t about to let a tornado warning stop me. This is a great event! Good food, good company, and a very cool african grey parrot! Rosie stole the show by coming out and visiting with everyone!

When I got home I started to upload the days pictures and when I checked my mail, I noticed that the paper wanted me to shoot a Memorial Day Ceremony Monday morning. It was a very nice ceremony with a good turnout. After the ceremony I headed home and chilled for the rest of the day.

Not a bad weekend to say the least!

2010 … A Look Back

The Courthouse

Click here to see my favorites of 2010

2010 was an interesting year. To say the least.

Lots of stuff happened. Some good, some bad. One thing I can say is that I sure made a lot of pictures in 2010! Some good, some bad.

You can click on the picture to your left to see a small gallery of my favorites from the past year. They might not be the best pictures I have taken but for one reason or another, they are my favorites. A couple of these are scenes I may never see again. And for that, I consider myself fortunate to have witnessed it in the first place!

I look forward to what 2011 brings. Right now, it brings the daunting task of cleaning up my computers and finishing up a few posts that have been languishing in limbo, but that’s another story for another day.

Enjoy the view and best wishes on the New Year!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2011Here’s wishing you a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!

Metrodome Collapse

This is spectacular. Not for the Metrodome, but spectacular nonetheless…..

Hey Buddy! Can you spare a Click?

LoganWith the holidays approaching quickly I thought I would take a little time to ask a favor. Not a big favor but a favor nonetheless.

If you plan on doing any shopping through Amazon.com this year could you use my affiliate link on the right side of this page? I get a small cut of whatever you spend and we all know that small cuts eventually add up.

I was hoping that this year I could cover my hosting costs and get Logan here a new frisbee or two. He goes through them pretty fast let me tell you!

The same goes for the Adorama and Dropbox links. I get a small cut of any purchase from Adorama and I get extra storage from Dropbox. Not familiar with Dropbox? Check ‘em out. Online storage couldn’t be easier and it’s so easy to keep you computers synced even I can do it!

I’d really appreciate it and I’d like to thank you in advance!

Have a great holiday season!

Craft & Vision: New Site

Just got a notice in my feeds that Craft & Vision just went public with their new site!

I have written about them here and can’t say enough good things about these books. I will make some notes and maybe write a couple of quicky reviews in the near future but I can say that I have them all conveniently stored in my DropBox so they are never far away and learned something from each and every one of them. That’s sayin something let me tell ya!

Each eBook is afford-ably priced at $5.00 and there is also a link to buy all the books with a 20% discount. Not only that, there is an iPad app coming out for those of you who are fortunate enough to have one of those puppies!

If you think think you might be interested in these books, and I can’t imagine you not being interested, click on the photo in this post or the link in my sidebar for more information. I have an affiliate account with Craft & Vision and would really appreciate it if you purchase your books through my link. Hey, a guys gotta eat!

The bottom line is that for the paltry price of $5.00 you can gain some knowledge! Each of those eBooks contain nuggets of wisdom that will change your view. It’s sort of spooky but in a good way!

Go ahead! Have a look.

4th of July Photo Ideas

As the 4th of July rapidly approaches I start thinking about how I’m going to top last years pictures. I start sniffing around the interwebs looking for new ideas. Here are a few articles that may or may not interest you:

Unique Fireworks photos using Lensblur

How to photograph Fireworks displays

This isn’t even close to being all there is out there but it’s a start! Have fun this weekend and be careful. If you think good photography is tough, it’s even tougher with one eye.
